Having to try and understand that is what we are to you is heartbreaking. It brings tears to my eyes because I can almost say it out loud.
I also understand Indy’s thinking too because I can see you as a little boy and my ex as a little girl and picture you feeling that way. How horrible to be a child and feel that. More empathy from me. 💔

We are all objects to you. Does a primary source ever become a secondary? Are other lovers considere secondary to the primary?
Yes a discarded primary source intimate partner can be hoovered and retained as a secondary source inner circle or outer circle friend. An intimate partner secondary source (someone we might be conducting an affair with) can then be promoted to intimate partner primary source when the current incumbent is discarded. A person can alternate between primary and secondary source.
You know, I don’t know which one is worse: object or appliance. But he mere fact that I have to think about it is just incredulous – and I happened to have liked the Brave Little Toaster…well, now, I just won’t view it the same way EVER!
Appliances are objects with a use/purpose. It happens all the time when people objectify other people. it helps us understand narcissism and sociopathy and why they behave the way they do and why empathy is so hard for them. Do you have empathy for your coffee maker? Probably not and would never think that the coffee maker suffers. Is just another way to explain how a human being could possibly not have empathy to those of us that naturally have empathy.
Yes, it is painful to imagine. For me though it helps me have empathy even more for somebody that does not have empathy Or has a reduced capacity for empathy…as I think it is on a spectrum.
Thanks Indy, I understand and am grateful for your explanation, and believe it is good for others to see to understand NPD and relate in such a way. It still irritates me though…I suppose we all have our peeves.

How very true. I shuddered when I read this! This is exactly how I was treated so many times. I shuddered reading this cause it reminded me of the many times I said to the narc: “You can not treat me like that, I am not an object, I am a human being!!”, in an upset tone of voice. (I am guessing that must have been good fuel, huh?) Luckily, this object” escaped. 🙂 Great meme HG, it says it all! 🌸🌻🌼
