I thought I made a comment about my poor cat taking up residence next door when my ex showed such jealousy over me petting it. My kitty knew she would be better off. Also, my father was a narc and was cruel to my pets. I love animals and felt they were my only friends when I was little.
Another one I can’t understand. Because the pet receives attention, taking it away from you? Or maybe because you don’t like to take care of it? Would you elaborate HG?
It takes attention away from us and may also require us to help with it when we do not do menial or support.
Thank you HG. Matching the behavior of the ex narc perfectly yet again. I am still surprised by all these revelations, one would think that would not even phase the grandiosity. But why would your kind take care of a primary sources sick child or even be with someone with many children. Aren’t they as worthless as dogs to a Narc. Mine was with someone who had 8 (!) kids. No money, no attention, no nothing. It’s a mystery to me.

He hates the fact that I WILL one day have a pet. Maybe not with him but…. I’ve made it known one day he’ll come home and a puppy will be here.

Knowing how he feels, you best never leave the animal alone with him. Not fair to bring an animal into that as they have no choice. Get a puppy and lose the dog for good.
LOL I use them as Narc repellant. Pain in the arse at times, but they are funny creatures and more entertaining than most people.
I work in veterinary medicine. Since reading this blog, I now easily can tell you the owners whose pets are for the facade. Horses are especially difficult when “used” for gathering fuel…LOL

my most recent N, acquired a cat from the shelter to “surprise me”, knowing I am highly allergic and not a fan of domestic cats…. Anyway, I now see he was gathering fuel….from me (negative) the animal shelter volunteers and the female director of the shelter (positive) and also future IPSS recruits, personal phone numbers and all…. I am forever grateful for finding HG and his INVALUABLE School of Tudor
The narc I knew always threatened ‘that dog is going to the pound’.
If I had known how much the love and adoration for my dog really upset him I would have played on it.
My mid range owned a dog. But then again it was probably because of his wife and kid. LOL. It couldn’t possibly have been his idea to have a dog right?

Yes, that`s right. My narc was jealous of a horse. It was the horse of the IPPS before me. He always told the relationship of them went wrong because of that horse. The horse was guilty! He could not confess to himself, that he had cheated on her, manipulated her, devalued her, took a lot of her money and so on. The horse was the guilty one. Sometimes it sounded funny, how he accused the horse. In some way it was true… She had spent more and more time with that horse because of her disappointment and his behaviour and she made new friends, who opened her eyes. Thus she escaped. Narcs are not able to share love. They do not understand that normal people share their loving feelings to many people and also to animals.
They do not understand that they (the narcs) still have a special position and are not abandoned or refused. Maybe they believe there is only a limited amount of love and if it is shared, they do not get enough.
Your gorilla is one of the few chosen ones who will not experience the Devaluation stage. 🙂

Of course I’m not suggesting that people with NPD are gay, far from it. I’ m just wondering if there is “dance” between narcisissam and homosexuality.

The lack of real self often works with the sexual fluidity which arises from it, in our kind.
There are those of our kind who adopt an approach of “I am not gay but whatever it takes to keep the party going.” Which is of course, all about the fuel.
Thinking back to all the possible narcs I’ve had in my life, they’ve all preferred dogs. Dogs do stuff for you and give back more – cats not so much.
Narcissist/Empath aside, I definitely think there’s a certain ‘personality type’ thing going on there.
The ex covert narc I figured out quick was using very ugly sickly dogs that no pet store would want to constantly give medicine to 3x a day and take care his sick friend in a wheel chair.All his friends were drug addicts.He fooled me for a week with the caring act all part of his facade.He never stopped talking about himself for 3 days straight.None of his actions and words matched.Making people feel sorry for him and his hifeous pets and is how he hides his ugliness until he devalues and pounces on you because your not buying tthe facade aymore.The poor pets.Sick and disgusting guy and a patholical liar of course.I wasnt fooled this time.heh heh heh
Observation of a cat is like the behaviour of a narc. It can be very entertaining tof watch and think about the narc as you know then that you are above him, he is stunted. Not that I want to play games, give myself my time no one else now. Suppose it’s empath thought fuel
My narc uses cats and dogs for his facade to show how caring he is. The dogs have behaviour issues from the puppet master.

Yep, cats! I love cats too. I have 2. One was from my ex-N as he couldn’t care for it anymore. He left a 3 month old kitten with me the first day I came home from major surgery. Then leaves after dumping kitty. One year later, right after I broke up with him and escaped him, he threatened to cat nap the cat if I didn’t call or text him. He actually said he would break into my place to get the cat. HAHAHAHAH.., what a piece of work. The funny thing is, this cat is vicious to strangers and he was essentially a stranger to the cat. I would have LOVED to have seen him try to cat nap him. LOL
In my case I didn’t want the pet (a dog). My ex narc was relentless in getting the damn dog.
Upon discard/disengagement I was now stuck with the dog. Luckily for the dog, he got stuck with me. My nurturing nature keeps him well cared for and despite myself I have to admit he is sweet and adorable. Damn it!! 😉

Yes, perhaps.
But I won’t get rid of the dog (even though he contributes to ever presence. AND it wold be better for me with less reminders) because I read that dogs become attached to their originally family and can become extremely sad if given away and I don’t want to cause the dog pain. It’s not his fault. And my kids love the dog, especially my oldest, and I don’t want to hurt them needlessly. A narc would not keep the dog.
Oh, and he had to be a purebred (narc wouldn’t accept any mix mongrels from a shelter…) and guess who paid for the dog? Me.
