We both live in our own fantasy. Who needs reality with its glaring fluorescent lights and white washed walls? We both use external sources to color our world beautiful. You paint with our fuel. We paint with what we think is your love.
If I ever ran into a greater, I believe he would be as obvious as a lesser, though for different reasons.
Take HG, for instance, too freaking good to be true. RUN!
Now a lesser: brutish, lacking control and mental agility. RUN!
The one who is less likely to be sussed out would be the mid-ranger. I believe that’s what X narc was, (though i vacillate between Greater and mid regarding him).
Hi Misty, NPD sufferers are the embodiment of Vampires; they make us bleed physically, emotionally, and mentally. Just being in their company they suck the very air we breathe… They are killers in affect, destroying our souls.
I agree with your Narc analysis. I think the way to suss out a mid-ranger is to watch their mood levels. Initially, they are not in your face, usually morose and can be edgy, not as volatile as the lesser; not as charming as the greater. In my experience anyway!
I just gave this more thought. It’s not funny; it’s sad. You’re being introspective, something rare for a narc, from what I’ve learned from you. Geez. This is the crap I would fall for. Stop it!
It can be both. Definitely funny and clever. It’s sad for the reason you said. Also sad because everyone they ensnare is as as interchangeable to them as an apple.
Very true Misty! HG has more introspection than the typical narcissist.
HG,
I noticed that your topic here on “keeping reality at bay goes both ways. Both narcissists and their sources (particularly empaths and codependents) keep reality at bay through engagement in the unhealthy relationship. The insidious brainwashing is all through our thinking too. I have spent some time reflecting and realize that I’m still unwinding from all the illusions and fantasies I sometimes too quickly go to still…..I realize my hopes for treatment of narcissism was part of that desire in me to rescue and change others that do not wish to change. That’s a problem! I apologize for not respecting that, HG. To you and myself. Sure, symptoms can be improved if the narcissist deems it will serve their purpose……but only then. It’s take em or leave em. And the healthiest thing is leave when it is possible. It makes me sad to write that still. Not due to exes I’ve left but something more deeply woven into my identity. it goes against a core value of mine as a therapist and Empath, to want to help others grow. It’s so hard to do and I’m learning. So I too played into that pattern too of avoiding reality.
Every day I wake up and lay for 2 hours before getting up and think how much I hate him for ruining my life. I repeat that fun activity before I go to sleep. It’s been my daily routine for almost 5 months now.
Can you imagine HG how exhausting is such existence? I’m fighting every single day to get rid of this emotional chaos he left me with. It’s the battle of my life. I just want the pain to go away. Why can’t you stop this madness.
HG!
That is ” sweet cruelty”…you definitely have a cruel but
at the same time charming sense of humour..So we are like the “medicine” (fuel)the narcissist needs to “eat”/ take on a daily basis to avoid seeing the reality about themselves?? I have to admit this image and the message it contains is cruel but ..very effective..
