Understanding Word Salad
What is word salad?
Why do narcissists use it?
What does it sound like?
How do you deal with it?
This provides you with a comprehensive example of word salad and then detailed explanations about its use and how you may tackle it.
I have read and listened to this article several times. It has helped me immensely in understanding the behavior of my ex. In the course of our 27 year relationship it seemed like nothing was ever resolved. It was so frustrating! My husband is one of the most intelligent narcissists I’ve been involved with, so he could toss a word salad with ease.
I am still in contact with him (we are co-parenting ). I try to keep it civil and even allow him to occasionally have dinner with us ,decorate the Christmas tree with us etc. For our daughter’s sake. We still have issues from time to time with co-parenting but I try to state my case once, acknowledge his perspective and ask that he considers my perspective for future co-parenting issues. Than I state if we can’t do that then there is no reason to still be in contact.
Our daughter will be 18 next year. She gets caught up in his control issues and word salad and recognizes this issue also. She regularly states I will just wait until I am 18 when he doesn’t agree with something she wants to do. I sometimes don’t agree with everything, but still support her in most of her decisions. I would rather she come to me than do something on her own, so she is more open with me. I also try to convey this idea to her father stating shes going to do it anyway at least we can guide her through it.
Gypsy Heart,
I commend your thought process and wish you encouragement as you continue coparenting.
Thank you Susan
HG,
I left a comment on your “perfect sense“ article regarding what you wrote here.
I do my best to utilise the same tactics you outline here .
It took me MANY MANY years to figure out that those tactics were the way to go.
All of this nonsense trying to figure out what they’re doing, and how to respond to it is exhausting, childish, and sick.
Yes, I’d much rather enjoy a good steak any day of the week!
