Fascinating to watch this. Thank you for this thorough explanation HG.

The envy, hatred and self-pity in her expression is obvious. It’s chilling. All that she has does nothing to quell the need for fuel and control, or reduce the envy. It’s just part of the facade.

This was almost frightening–it’s like choreography, how she realizes she’s not on camera, moves so that she is, but doesn’t frame her expression appropriately for the camera until she’s already given the DoC that glare for blocking her shot.

A theatre friend commented that MM is expert at finding the camera, but doesn’t seem to know what to do with it once she’s found it. I’ve noticed that she often looks directly into the camera when an apparently unaware shot would work better (sort of a phony candid, when you’re so wrapped up in what you’re doing that you supposedly don’t even notice there is a camera). The DoC can do genuine candids, because she’s focused on other people; a higher-functioning narcissist could fake them, but MM is either on-camera, consciously performing away at the lens, or, as far as she knows, off. When she’s off, we get candid shots of pure malice. She doesn’t seem to realize that even if the camera is focused on someone else, she is still in frame.

I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve seen plenty of actors try to steal a scene, but they damned well know what they’re doing. If a supporting character on stage pulled a face like that during a performance, she’d hear about it from the stage manager afterwards. Glare all you like from the wings, trade bitchy remarks with other cast members, but not where the audience can see or hear it.

I left out one category: all actors do “phony candids” when they pose for stills. There may be cast pictures where you’re all looking out, but when there are scene shots, you freeze in character. Even though stage actors “cheat out” so their actions are visible to the audience, they are still purportedly engaging with each other, not the audience.

If you’re a guest at Capulet’s ball, for instance, neither in performance nor during publicity stills would you glare at Romeo or Juliet, even if you think you should have gotten the part. You stay in character, looking lovingly at your dance partner, or flirting, or enjoying the “wine” in your goblet as you mime gossiping with other guests.

I haven’t watched Suits, but I’m curious to know whether MM stays in character if she’s not speaking or shooting a reaction shot. If she’s not the focus of a scene, but she’s in frame, does she break character?

Unless you’re Tybalt. Then it’s okay.

Hi Violetta, I read your ‘query’ RE: MM /Suits. Can I suggest you to view ‘Zane vs. Zane’ Season 2 : Episode 13 (aired on 31 January 2013)? She has a main role in this episode…..hope this helps 🙂

        1. Violetta says:

Can I do this on YouTube? No cable or streaming.

          1. Asp Emp says:

Violetta, I’ll have a quick look for you but at present I am only finding ‘promo’ videos, so there may be a series of short videos but I’ll send you the links with Her in them 🙂

          2. Asp Emp says:

Hi Violetta, I had a quick look and the fact it’s in acting scenarios, it is not quite the same thing as HG’s videos on her.

          3. Violetta says:

            Asp Emp:
Thank you for looking; that was very kind. I have a friend who knew about the series, although expressed puzzlement at her receiving any notice: “it’s about the two guys.” I’ll ask him about the episode next time I see him.

I used to think someone without any empathy couldn’t be a great performer, but given the lists HG has made, some of the more talented narcs have made cognitive empathy go pretty far. Likewise, some genuinely sweet people are horrible actors.

However, a good actress can hide her narciness in performance. I suspect MM’s not that good, and whenever it’s not her line or her close-up, if she’s within frame, she will have trouble staying in character. But I will try to test my theory and report back.

          4. Asp Emp says:

Violetta, The series may have appeared that it was the two guys as the main characters when it first came out. The episode I refer to is her and her ‘father’ at ‘loggerheads’ – the name is the characters surname.

Well, HG has described her a grade ‘d’ actor (quite a few drops from the ‘A’ list, eh?). I honestly thought she was wishy-washy, even in the TV series. Now I know why (laughing).

RE: other narcissist actors, yup, I was absolutely gobsmacked about Dustin Hoffman.

I know what you mean RE: having trouble to stay in character. Ask around, Violetta, if anyone you know has the DVDs of Suits (borrow them?). Good luck. I look forward to hearing your views RE: her acting. 🙂

It’s horrifying to think that Husband Harry was so afraid of Will, Kate, and Camilla’s hijinks that he was unable to set firm travel plans. It’s become clear that HRH Princess Meghan’s decision to whisk her family off to Montecito was the only choice she had to protect her family. But to the horror of the toxic royal trio across the pond, we are now seeing the House of Sussex rising in Southern California, to the point where HRH Princess Meghan and Husband Harry are the most beloved and influential couple in North America. There is a palpable buzz about Princess Meghan’s presidential run in 2024 and most political experts agree that she would win an election in the biggest landslide victory since Roosevelt. The people in their immediate orbit are rapidly ascending as well – Omid Scobie is a favorite to win a Pulitzer Prize later in the year and Oprah is mentioned as possible Secretary of State in a Sussex administration.

Can you supply me the name of your dealer as I want some of what you’re smoking.

    1. Asp Emp says:

Violetta, how enlightening! Thank you for sharing that – there are some truths and some rumours (yet to be confirmed). But, yes, I had come across that about her / White House – maybe she’ll be exposed long before that. The last part had me laughing…….

      Violetta,
I had to re-read your message. For a moment, I had misread it and thought you were losing the plot. Honey Pot needs immediate access to HG and/or a Doctor. Scary stuff. Funny how she completely left out how Harry and his wife were not invited to the hottest Birthday Bash in town, President Barack Obama’s 60th birthday. If they are so hot in North America, wouldn’t they have been front and centre on that guest list. Even Chrissie Teigan managed to get an invite through her husband. Hottest couple – I think not.
      Love the response though.
      Best,

  4. Supernova DE says:

    HG,
This video and also the several you have done on Markle v Morgan have really cleared up what the third assertion of control (withdrawal) looks like. It has made sense of many interactions I’ve had in the past, thank you!

    1. HG Tudor says:

      Good.

  5. Asp Emp says:

OMG. The clip that was part of this video is really clear. Her displeasure, her envy, her eyes shooting daggers, the lips curled upwards, so many ‘actions’ in what would have been about 3 to 5 seconds?

I have seen the same ‘expression’. Many times. Different narcissists. The Lesser showed his what looked like in a ‘sneer’ type but I knew it was envy. It is not as easy when it comes to describing this kind of thing on paper but when it is visually available, wow.

Laughing, the plaster placing across her forehead on the image, how apt. Not that she would actually slap her forehead, like ‘ah, fk, made an error here’, is she?

That clip needs to be very available to the public. They would be shocked. Because it is very apparent, the eyes / expression on the face is clearly for Kate, no-one else. Meghan’s eyes did not look at anyone else, not even the person that Kate was talking with.

OMG. Absolutely brilliant to be able to see this within your work, HG. A lovely and expressive piece of evidence of narcissism and the narcissist ‘at work / in action’.

I am delighted that you were sent this clip, HG, to be able to use it.

    1. WhoCares says:

      Asp Emp,

“I have seen the same ‘expression’. Many times. Different narcissists. The Lesser showed his what looked like in a ‘sneer’ type but I knew it was envy. It is not as easy when it comes to describing this kind of thing on paper but when it is visually available, wow.”

I agree with you, it’s something that is hard to explain or describe to people, unless they have experienced it. (or they simply don’t witness it, because the look is reserved for a specific individual). I have experienced the sneer from my LMRN ex.

After I had escaped, I needed to bring food to my cat (who was still in the company of ex, as I could not bring my cat to the place of my temporary living arrangements AND I could not locate anyone to foster him in the interim). At the time I had no way to get the food to my cat except by means of accepting a ride with a perfect stranger.

When I exited that person’s pickup truck on the passenger side (with the cat food in hand) my ex fixed me with most vicious sneer (only for me and visible only to me) and then spat on the ground. It was so fast, and just as quickly he fixed a smile on his face and nodded in thanks to the driver for giving me a lift, as the driver approached from the driver side.

The viciousness in that look cemented for me the realization that I had to hightail it out of there, again, asap.

It’s brilliant and beautiful for this collection of examples of ‘the stare’ being brought together and analyzed by HG.

      1. Asp Emp says:

WhoCares, wow. That ex, spitting on the ground?! OMG. And you ‘got it’ before it was ‘changed’ again to the ‘Oh, I am a lovely guy’ (my arse!). Yes, it is difficult to explain to people who do not have any skills in ‘observing’ others. Yes, HG’s work is WTF brilliant, his observing skills – ah, he cannot miss anything can he? You can’t get anything past him (laughing). Thank you, WhoCares, for sharing a perfect example of your ex’s instinctive expressions. I was like, wow.
