I work in the U.S. in the area of the U.S. side of International Taxes.
Regarding TOW and her alleged pathetic argument to not pay U.S. federal taxes based on the excuse that Harry is exempt, please note the following-
A U.S. Citizen is required to pay U.S. federal taxes on their worldwide income, regardless where they currently live or earn such income.
She would have been subject to the same filing requirements on her income earned while working in Canada as a third rate actor.
Since tow has not relinquished her U.S. citizenship, she is subject to both federal and California taxes on her worldwide taxable income. To avoid the burden of double taxation, there are tax credits such as the Foreign Tax Credit, along with income exclusions such as the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion available.
Since Harry is considered a Resident Alien in the U.S., he would also be subject to U.S. federal taxes on certain aspects of his worldwide income, and would also be eligible for the above mentioned credit and exclusion.
