I have been watching this case today in youtube and yes, he is a narcissist or probably a sociopath but his wife was also an overt narcissist, dominant type of woman that pushed his buttons so much that brought a mentally unstable person to snap in the worst way.
HG, during your absence, CW plead guilty to his crimes in order to avoid the death penalty. He will spend the rest of his natural life in prison. (which may not be long considering he’s a wife and baby killer) I didn’t know if you were aware of this development in the story.
Michelle Carter is about to be sentenced for encouraging her boyfriend to kill himself – she has distinctive eyebrows which I read is a curious feature of many narcissists. So I’m calling it- she’s a narc – getting someone to commit suicide, not feeling remorseful, and not to mention, those brows.

I personally do not believe narcs have a certain physical trait in common.

Hi HG , what is your opinion on Ted Bundy was he a greater narc plus psychopath , why do these ones become killers ,is their sense of grandiosity higher than all other narcs to push them to think they can even control life and death for someone.
Kiki, I think Ted Bundy was a Greater. In my humble assessment, a Psychopath like Bundy would kill for need of stimulation or because the opportunity suits their personal gain. They are more likely to plan a murder.
With some of the more sloppy murders, it is more of a Psychosis issue. The person could be, but not necessarily a Psychopath, but they could also be Bipolar, schizophrenic, or even a “normal person” if the conditions are right. This is when someone “loses it” and kills someone from rage or losing touch from reality. This is the most common scenario for a murder.

First off i follow many criminal cases you could say its a passion of mine. Ive always watched forensics series and criminal cases. Cold cases are my favorite.
This one and mollie tibbetts has really stood out to me but from a narcissism pespective chris watts really showcases so much of what weve learned here. We cant know all the dynamics of their relationship but there are definite red flags. Cheating, the way shanann talks about how they met when she was at a low point in her life, the way she builds him up sky high and eventually how she starts to become independant and building her business. she surrounds herself with like minded people and they are positive and more than likely this dispels the gaslighting and brainwashing that chris has spun within her mind. She realises she can do so much better on her own and wants out. Its been documented she admitted to friends she suspected chris was having an affair. Its also documented by chris himself they had had an “emotional”discussion that early morning when she returned from her business trip.Thats when all control was lost for chris and he decides to end it all. I suspect it wasnt pemeditated but spontaneous from narcissistic rage. He killed her and had to kill the only witnesses which were his children. Of course its all speculation but the pieces fit together how he hid the bodies and his ability to lie so calmy no sign of remorse. Weve seen two people one of which being a male come out and admit to having an affair with chris. The woman he was involved with said he had strangled her while engaging in a rape scenerio which was a fetish of his. He also hid his bisexuality. This also could be something shanann knew about and he had told his male lover his bisexuality could never be known or his life would end. I think chris was a covert narcissist. Hes definitely a psychopath to be able to kill his family and calmly lie about it after having hid their bodies the way he did. He lacks empathy, remorse and accountability which is a narcissist.
I didn’t realize the wife’s family was in NC! I’m watching interviews and studying to try my hand at analyzing ahead of the official narc detector’s verdict. I saw the UNC Tarheels T-shirt and was like huh?!? They’re in Denver! Red flag right there. They are across the country from her family. It’s early in my investigation. I’ll be back…

Here’s my take. I’ve read very little of the comments so as not to be influenced. Other than NA’s comment about being a “browner” which I assume would be me in this instance. HaHa but I wanted to see how I would do. So here goes:
First, let me say that I am embarrassed that I wasn’t on top of this story as the characters were nearly in my backyard. Now you know I really am telling the truth that I don’t watch the news. The memorial service for the victims was held in a town only about an hour away from me. It has been heart-wrenching doing this research today and I have been thankful to be focused on the facts rather than the emotions of the situation. This stinks of the Scott Peterson case and also an even older case where Susan Smith strapped her two young boys into their car seats and pushed the car into a lake. That story had a huge impact on me. Still does.
I think CW is a lower middle somatic (I first thought upper lesser, but changed my mind.)
• Initial interview observations: good looking, in shape, shaved arms, zero remorse, a stab at some fake empathy (pretending to get choked up when talking about putting the girls to bed, etc.), pity play for how difficult a night it had been for him to stay home alone without them. I didn’t get the impression of him smiling as others have stated although he did have a pleasant look for someone whose entire family was missing. Lack of emotion. (he swayed the whole time-not sure what that was)
• Disrespectful to the bodies of the slain (lack of empathy)
• Murder by strangulation (mid-range behavior)
• He was having an extra-marital affair with a co-worker (a given)
• Close friends thought they knew the couple and never suspected anything was wrong, never saw any problems in their marriage (façade)
• Her FB feed was jam-packed with testaments to their “happy” relationship and painting him as a “perfect” father. Over the top – leading me to suspect a Stepford Devalution (My only concern with this is that she worked and was described as successful and independent.)
• Their lifestyle was beyond their means as they had to file bankruptcy. (Grandiosity despite him having a blue collar job)
• She was described as very sweet and well-liked indicating strong empathic traits, he met her by friending her on FB.
• He admitted to there being an “emotional conversation” when she returned from her trip indicated by some as talking about separation.
• With the Stepford Devaluation, I think she already knew about the affair(s) so I don’t think her discovery of that information led to the murders. I think she came in from her business trip with the children asleep and said we need to talk, I can’t live this way anymore and said she was leaving. When the initial GH did not meet with success, his fury ignited and he strangled the children as she tried to stop him and then did the same to her because (a) the fury had not abated and/or (b) she needed to be disincentivized as a witness.
• He thought he would get away with it due to the air-tight façade, his lack of accountability, and grandiose/superior thinking that he was smarter than the police.
• More pity plays yesterday from prison being on suicide watch (mid-range behavior)
I’m looking forward to what points are focused on by Prof. Tudor.

The horror and tragedy of what has happened to his family aside…
Imagine how horrifying it will be for his side piece now to have been associated with that. People will wonder how she could not have known (we know but the public at large does not). Her reputation will be forever changed all due to what she perhaps perceived as a harmless affair (if she even knew of his family). Who knows-maybe she will even stand by him. I know nothing about her to date. Nor him really, I just saw his plea to have his family back and said aloud to the tv and my husband: Ha! Theyre not even looking for anyone else. He’ll be arrested any day now. I look forward to what HG has to say on the matter.
There was that other case Scott someone who murdered his wife and the girl friend Amber , she helped the police catch him. I wonder about these women that do stand by these men HG? or what about these women that write to men in prison or marry them, women that wrote to Ian Brady ? Or Charles Manson , what diagnosis would you give those women HG?
NA, I thought about the other woman/man and the trauma she/he is suffering and probably with no support. I feel sad for that person too. They were caught up in the illusion as well. It would not surprise me for the extra-marital victim to commit suicide before the trial. Testifying will be horrendous.

Though MRN was not the least bit violent, after I figured out what he was post-escape I did (as IPSS) have this vague unsettled feeling that I was accessory to a murder. I was in a lot of denial but I cried about this once in the middle of the road and told him we could only be in touch if they split up (he ignored me). This is also why I told IPPS. I couldn’t let her continue to be led down the garden path with absolutely zero knowledge/warning. But of course whether you are IPSS or IPPS, it’s all very hard to believe and accept.
Just as an aside, I believe statistically more mothers than fathers kill their own biological children (not saying that is so in this case), though of course domestic violence overall is more likely to be committed by men.
SMH, she probably knew he was unfaithful, just not with whom or the specific details. Telling her would’ve satisfied her truth seeking, so there is that consolation.
And you’re right, there’s no way that woman killed those children. Total blame-shift!
I don’t think she knew, MB. They were reconciling after a separation, going to couples therapy, etc. She thought his cheating was a one off and his ‘remorse’ was real. She probably did not trust him at first but slowly she thawed.
Then I left for four months, just enough time for him to convince her that they were solid. It all took about a year.
I too thought he was focused on his marriage (IPPS and I are not so different) but when I returned, he was the same – maybe worse because he had her where he wanted her. I told him I did not get why he was still married and the situation wasn’t for me. I had no idea at the time of all that I have learned here.
At least she does have the truth now, even if she rejects it or it doesn’t matter.
SMH, I know from experience that a one off can be forgiven. It’s difficult and it takes time. Plus he has to truly be remorseful. Trust is earned in drops and spilled in buckets. He spilled the whole bucket, but patiently earned it back drop by drop. Of course, that would never work with a narcissist.
I wonder if they are still together? Not your concern of course. We need to stop thinking about the jerk!
MB, I don’t have tons of experience with cheaters – the last time I did the internet barely existed – but I’ve read a lot now. I also thought it was a one off and his remorse was real. It took him ages to persuade me to have an affair and then I left again. But since we’d already been in a FR, it didn’t seem different, he was patient and tried to earn my trust, and it worked for awhile (not that long, to be honest – the whole thing was 2 years but that part was only five months).
He and IPPS have been ‘together’ for ages. I am sure they still are, though I have not tried to find out. They are very privileged, kids are grown, she has a degree, but no interests and does nothing, not even meaningful volunteer work. I once asked him what she did all day. He responded that he did not know. I asked why she did not work. He said she interviewed for a job once! In that way, she and I are very different. I have been very career-driven since I was 22. She is all love, hope, Christmas and flowers. I told him it seems like he has four children instead of three. They all even look alike. A true Stepford family, though not glamorous at all.
Last summer his brother was found to be having a long affair (runs in the family – I am guessing dad did too) and his wife left him. MRN told me that his wife blamed her SIL ‘oh she is so difficult.’ That is one thing that turned me against IPPS – blaming her SIL for BIL’s cheating when her own husband had cheated. I looked at MRN incredulously. How could you sit there and listen to that while you are having an affair too? Is your wife a bitch? Are we all just bitches to you? We ended it at that point and I STILL thought he was committed to his marriage. But he creeped me online the whole time and then wanted me back. Shocked again. That is when I said no, firmly.
One can understand how I thought he just needed/wanted ME before I knew he was a narc. I just cannot figure out how IPPS cannot know this. The only answer is that the facade matters more to her. Someone here said co-dependents are inverted narcs.

Though admitted later that he had killed her afterall and that it was because she’d hurt the children..Really?

HG, Chris Watts is a Lesser. First off, he lost his shit when he killed his wife and kids. A Mid would not do that and a Greater would have planned it better. Second, your related posts are all about Lessers, so you’ve already categorized it. My exH was a Lesser who also raged a lot, though on the surface he was very nice and well groomed (he was a hoarder who nevertheless ironed his shirt every morning and obsessed about his boots). He also had an affair during his first marriage but he kindly left his wife and kids rather than murdering them.
I’m thinking for future ‘A Very…’ articles I won’t write the article, I will just do a trailer and let you good readers all do the work using what you have learned from me!

HG—I apologize if you’ve ever been asked this, but do you have any personal “ick/yuck” factor in regard to crimes? For instance, it’s always said criminals in jail have contempt for various crimes such as pedophilia. They will beat/kill these individuals if they have access to them. OR is it simply about gathering fuel? If I’m a sociopath no good loser lesser in prison and I beat up a known molester that’s a lot of fuel. Was the motivation really for fuel or truly about an “ick factor.” Or both? I really would love your take on this concept.
It is about the furtherance of one’s own aims, the presentation of a façade and grandiosity (“I may be a criminal but I am not THAT kind of criminal”) and the acquisition of fuel.

OMG, who knows what’s going on inside a man’s head! Or what those innocent faces hide! He looks like decent, kind man.
My guess is that he is NOT a narcissist (Not a lot of information available yet), My reasons are:
– He immediately confessed about the murder, he doesn’t know how to get away with it. Narcissists know how to hide and plan for their evil act.
– According to one of Chris’ male lover, Chris never showed violent tendencies.
– By comparing Chris Watts to Robert Brown (Serial killer), I will come to the conclusion that he (Chris Watts) might NOT be a narcissist. Because, again, narcissists don’t leave evidence. Robert Brown, later confessed to the police about the murder of 48 victims, even the police was not aware that he was the murderer of these vague cases.
So, I would say. Robert Brown is a murderous narcissist. Because he enjoyed killing people for no reason.
The case with Chris Watts, is different, as he doesn’t have previous crimes or violent motives. No one knows his motives for committing such an act yet, it might be that he was under a drug influence, stress, pressure or unresolved argument with his wife.
To sum up, criminals are not always narcissists or psychopaths. We were programmed by the media since we were young, that always narcissists and psychopaths are killers and they are away and we are safe in some places such as the workplace, I grew up believing in this idea, and I had a bad luck for falling for a trustworthy, good looking and peaceful man who come out to be a soul vampire, narcissist. Haha. Now I know.
So, yes, a lot of narcissists and psychopaths have a high status and good job. Those who are in criminal line, are those who might not had a chance for good education or they were bad at school.
If Chris Watts is a narcissist, I will have to be more aware of the dirty coward ex.

I suppose it is possible that a man can have multiple secret lovers, murder his wife and small children, then accuse the dead wife of having killed her little girls, THEN hide their little dead bodies in oil tanks at a job site and him not be a narcissist. It may be possible, but in my opinion it’s mighty damn unlikely.
Be more wary of your cowardly, seemingly harmless ex. Narcs only think of what’s best for them and them only. In a lot of ways, the less intelligent ones are more dangerous than the smart ones, because they can’t plan well or foresee consequences.

Well, it is because researches say; psychopaths make up 1% in the population. Also, there is an approach that diagnose narcissist according to how many narcissistic traits they have. The approach says that if the person displays up to 9 narcissistic traits, he/she can be diagnosed as a narcissist. For example, if Chris Watts displays up to 3 or 4 narcissistic traits, then he is NOT a narcissist.
HG Tudor, look at narcissism from a different perspective. His perspective, in my opinion is clearer and more organized than other approaches that I came across.
In case, the first study that says psychopaths are 1% in the population, refers to those who are born psychopaths, I mean those who don’t need fuel. Then, Chris Watts is not counted here.
Let’s look at it from HG Tudor perspective. Though there are not enough information yet about Chris Watts. I will say that he might belong to the lesser school. Why? Because:
– He was referring to himself a lot in the recent interview when he was talking about how will live without his family. Instead of showing concern about them, will they come back or not. He continued to think of himself instead. (Self centered)
– He through his daughters in the oil tank as you mentioned, and I watched a valid observation by one man, he said, if he cared for them he would show some respect by burring their bodies instead of throwing them into an oil tank. (Lack of empathy). Whether he buried them or through them in the tank, he killed them in the first place, which shows the lack of empathy.
– He was trying to fool the police and the people through the interview which shows that he sees himself as more intelligent and cunning than other people. When someone sees himself Vertical to people and not Horizontal, this is called (arrogance) the same example might show (Grandiosity ) as well.
– This point show why I say he belongs to the lesser school. It is because of his low cognitive function, lack of control over his ignited fury, he must have been angry before committing such a thing.
And then you also have Sam Vaknin view, he says that you can’t refer to anyone who is violent or abusive as a narcissist.
There is also other approach that call abusive people who are not reaching the extreme, only abusers!
So, it is just that am confused because of the Varity of sources and approaches.
We will find out the sure answer by the expert, On the 7th of September!
One last point, in case Chris Watts is normal, and he did what he did at the moment of anger, then he tried to cover up for himself by hiding the bodies out of fear of authority, there is one factor that can distinguish if he is a narcissist or a normal person which is REMORSE.

Thank you Windstrom for your warning about the narcissist that I used to know. It is true he is coward and his personality is weak. But he is the prince of manipulation and intelligence. If he was not intelligent and well behaved, I wouldn’t have given him a glimpse in the first place.

Exactly why I think he is a Lesser, Windstorm. He did not plan well or see the consequences. He raged and then quickly tried to get rid of the evidence.

I voted narcissist/sociopath due to his lack of emotion and his ability to lie after his wife went missing and his ability to wear the illusion mask/double life.
The video of his wife demonstrates that she believes he is a Prince Charming. Additionally, the neighbors knew nothing. I imagine that his wife was loyal to him and subjected to gaslighting.. projecting… manipulations… etc.
Also, my view is that he had a sense of entitlementt and also wanted the high of risky behavior/experiencing with both sexes at the same time while he is married. My thought is he gets a high off of getting away with something.
I think that maybe he confessed due to the mounting evidence against him so he went to plan B-blaming her for what he did-rather than show remorse.
I think more details will come out as the case progresses. Look at Scott Peterson and Lacey Peterson case. That was his first killing.
Look at Casey Anthony who I believe killed her daughter but blamed her mother and father.

Remember they’re not all smart. I’ve known many narcs whose lies can easily be seen through and who would not hold up with their story under public scrutiny. To me, not staying serious while publicly pleading for info on his “missing” family is a red flag for narcissism.

He was so relaxed and actually laughing! It’s unbelievable.
I recently lost my favourite umbrella I’ve had for years while shopping and I think I was more emotional and distraught while retracing my steps to find it than he was. And this was after his wife and two small daughters had simply vanished!
My guess is that he’s a psychopath as well as a narcissist. I’m looking forward to HG’s article on Friday.

Thanks for the laugh about the umbrella. I agree and can relate. I was the same at losing an earring while shopping once, and spent considerable time retracing my steps, only to return home to find it on the vanity. I had only put one on. Did you check the car? Haha.

Yes, Watts’ cool and carefree demeanour – even nonchalant disregard – is a disgrace to more sophisticated members of his kind. It’s also a chilling example of how a lack of empathy, conscience and self-control can result in horrible, violent and tragic events. It seems the only thing standing between such terrible and dangerous behaviour is the need to operate socially with a facade. It’s truly frightening.
I think the world in general seriously needs a wake-up call to the consequences of not taking empathy and conscience self-awareness more seriously.

Not to state the obvious, but Narc or plebe, the dude’s a mess. I can’t help but wonder how his familial execution could have been prevented, little (or blaring neon) warning signs that were overlooked or purposefully ignored/misattributed to problems that tend not to lead to murder in a less volatile individual.

Thanks for confirming HG, i think i can spot them now, certainly in the public eye anyway, but yet again the word has not been used in connection with her, it’s about time this started to be called what it is to start educating people , although i hear it being used more now than before it’s still usually in some reference to bloody selfies or that kind of behaviour , which is slightly misleading. I wasn’t aware of the Chris Watts thing but have been watching bits on youtube ready for tomorrow !! Interesting that during all Chris Watts appeals on camera for his missing family he talks only about himself, what he thinks , what he does or doesn’t know , what he feels, how it’s affecting him !!! Even when lying and covering up it is still only from the me me me perspective

Absolutely. A man beat his wife to death and he was waving at the cameras and making odd smirky faces and right away I had him pegged for a lesser. They are blinded by their narcissism and, because of their lower cognitive functioning, the lesser is the most blinded of the schools.
Bingo is full of narcissists; it is like swimming with the sharks! I am surrounded.

After seeing a few news articles about him, I guessed he was a somatic and I also guessed mid-ranger, but he could be upper-lesser too. He looks very fit, tanned and well-groomed.
His wife was active on social media and she portrayed him in glowing terms and their family life as idyllic. Friends and neighbours were shocked and described him as always willing to help others and provide a lending hand.
They both appeared to me as caring a lot about the “image” they showed for other people to see. It makes me wonder what was actually lurking behind the “perfect” facade. It’s very interesting.

He is definitely a somatic; he is good looking and in great shape. I am not 100% sure on the school but I have been paying attention to body language in the news and there is a difference between schools (I think). Mids come across as “feel sorry for me; I am the victim” and, sometimes, they can squeeze out a few crocodile tears for the cameras.
There was something about the way he moved that reminded me of my twin (a lesser) and I just knew he did it.
This is going to sound strange, but I suspect the wife may possibly be a mid because my IRL narcissists rewrite their own lives and present it to the public as truth, that’s facade maintenance: Everything is wonderful!
Or she could have been in total denial. I am pondering that conundrum.

The different schools are something I think I had a pre-conceived notion about. This case has made me think about the schools a little differently.
Beforehand, I simply assumed lessers were typically fairly overtly narcissistic in a brazen kind of way. For some reason, I thought that them being less cognitively aware of what they were would make them less likely to care about displaying a socially “perfect” facade. So this case makes me now see that the behaviour of a lesser can actually be quite covert. An observer still needs to scratch the surface and question them and not take things at face value.
About Bingo and the amount of narcs there, I honestly believe sometimes that there are many more narcs than the official statistics claim. There are narcs everywhere! It’s actually like plague proportions in some places. I think it’s the empaths who are more at risk of facing extinction. Narcs have better survival prospects in an overpopulated, capitalist, corporatised, “greed is good”, social media infested world.

I think his psychopathy (lack of emotive responses, flat affect, impulsive behaviour) may have been a factor in making it a bit tricky to figure out the school. When you see lessers on the news, sometimes, they are ostentatious and aggressive. He was very calm and that may have made people think he was a midranger.
My instinct immediately said: lesser. I noticed his flat affect and his body language straight away.
It is an epidemic and we are getting are asses kicked. Empaths are rare and the majority of the Bingo Ladies/players are ULNs and LMRNs. All the female volunteers seem to be normals with empathy and the three males (2 are dads) are narcissists.
Damn straight we are facing extinction; it is a jungle out-there!
