Harry´s Wife : No Hiding the Hate

It’s ironic, given her attempts to milk her WoC status (except in that 2010s resume where she lists herself as Caucasian, but she seems to have attempted to model herself on Scarlett O’Hara. William is the Ashley Wilkes she thinks she deserves; Kate is Melanie, whom she’s dismissed as a “mealy-mouthed mess” (although Margaret Mitchell’s Scarlett eventually comes to appreciate Melanie), and Harry is either 1st husband Charles or 2nd husband Frank, neither of whom she respects. Despite numerous failures, she thinks she’s a gifted businesswoman; of course, Mitchell has set up early in the book that Scarlett’s only good subject at school was arithmetic, and her lumber business prospers specifically because Atlanta is rebuilding after the war: in other words, Scarlett already has the talent and identifies the opportunity to use it.

She’s even attempted to make green her signature color: green for the mothers-in-law at the wedding, weddings pics shot in the Green Drawing Room at Windsor Castle, the infamous demand for an emerald tiara, and green at various major events (such as the Robin Hood outfit for the Commonwealth).

I’d be curious to know if GWTW, either book or movie, was an influence along with all those royal bios. The movie was broadcast on TV from the 1970s until the 2010s, and Meghan’s chameleon nature wouldn’t have found it objectionable before its racial and sexual tropes were condemned by enough people to provide her with a bandwagon.

Violetta, thank you for sharing the information. Interesting but not surprising. It’s character trait ‘acquisition’ – she does similar in relation to Diana (clothes, perfume etc). RE: the colour green in the film is where Scarlett rips down the velvet curtains to have a dress made before she goes to see Ashley (if I can recall correctly). Doria’s house is also that disgusting guacamole green (as HG described)…..(laughing at recalling some of the words I used in relation to that)…..

Wow, the first image and the ‘emptiness’ of the narcissist.

Second image – the one of her looking at Kate – looks like she’s imagining and relishing her thoughts, as if she wants to stab Kate’s head. The eyes say it all and that ‘rictus’ grin.

Third image – with William in the foreground – she’s looking at Kate with a look of envy and displeasure.

Oh, in image # 4 – she’s looking at William as if to say ‘I could mooch with you’ and more….

Image # 5 – Harry looks somewhat perturbed / in rather deep thought. Her, well, as you say, she’s got that ‘smug’ look on her face. As if to say ‘serves you right’.

You may ‘balk’ at my thoughts here, I did wonder about looking at some of my family photographs and see if I can recognise any of the narcissist’s behaviours / expressions ‘caught on camera’. LOL, then I thought of your recent (and brilliantly written) article ‘Burn. Burn. Just For Me…’ and a little neat ‘pyre’ of my own. I know that my ET may raise in relation to my father and my grandmother but not Her (muvver). Damned if I do, damned if I don’t? Maybe I won’t look at the family photographs just yet. Applying logic instead.

Thank you for this video, HG.

    HG,
This is great. Just something that came to mind and very much interested me. If Harry’s wife was not Harry’s wife, but just another lay person walking around, and you happened to meet her on a night out with friends in a club. How long after meeting her would you have her figured out?
    Best,
    DB

Dependent on the level of interaction, 15-30 minutes.

Wow. That quick. Good to know.
Thank you HG. BTW, Best of Luck with the new forum. You are going to be reaching so many more people who will be so grateful and delighted to get to know your work. You will be reaching far and wide and not before time. Great stuff.
        Best,
        DB

This is so interesting and really answers lots of questions for me. There is a female N I know, she is incredibly popular, and without a doubt more beautiful, intelligent and talented than I could ever dream of being. And that is not me doing myself down, it’s just factually correct. She understandably garners a lot of attention. Yet when I am with the same group of people as her and someone pays me a smidgen of attention, the look of hatred towards me is incredible. I don’t notice her doing this to others and probably because they are all painted white and me black. I have no idea what caused me to be painted black in the first place but once I recognise this hatred towards me in someone, whilst I find it easy to be pleasant to them even though they may not be to me, I find it impossible to bring myself to lavish them with attention or adoration which I would ordinarily do for someone I like.

So even when an N is not a subordinate they can still have huge distain for someone not under their control.
