HG, I watched ‘AI Confidential with Hannah Fry’ with fascination, horror, and even more determination not to trust some automated AI systems.
I recalled your videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNaFO21U7xc The Narcissist and the Sex Bot; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJAralq6QKs AI : The Tool of the Narcissist
I also recently re-watched ‘2001 : A Space Odyssey’, considering that the film was released in 1968, the ship’s computer HAL refusing the human Dave re-entry into the ship gives a strong indication (prophecy) of computers taking over humans. HAL informed Dave that despite no voice being heard, HAL was able to lip-read the conversation.
The Library of Congress recently released a short film created in 1897 ‘Gugusse and the Automaton’. It amused me. It was also very well done, showing the creativity and the advanced thinking of the film creator at that time. The film sums up perfectly how some humans may feel / think about computers!
Hannah Fry’s programme piqued my interest as to her reactions when she ‘heard’ her ‘voice’ during a phone call with AI and the caller (Hannah was not speaking out loud during this phone conversation). The caller who created such a facility where AI can ‘speak’ in the voice of a deceased person to be able to have phone conversations with them. Thus, continue living in the fantasy of where the person is not dead. I do understand this but I would not even consider this as an option, because it does not seem natural to me (a combination of factors and reasons on my part). The use of the word “hopelessness”, I found interesting.
There was a scene on EastEnders where a character was given such an option, to ‘talk’ with his deceased son and his immediate reaction was of abject horror. The next scene shows him having that conversation.
It made me question, how many people on the narcissism to empath spectrum would utilise this facility of talking with a dead person over a phone call. I already know the answer, from my perspective and my learning of your work.
In my opinion, I think it is evident that AI are not necessarily training humans to be humans / think like humans / feel like humans, but, slowly, yet, surely, gaslighting some humans to the point of endangering themselves / other people (including planet Earth). In that respect alone, I agree with imposing age restrictions on the use of social media, yet, social media (in my opinion) is not the only source of ‘danger’.
“I seek them out to alleviate the ever present threat of boredom” HG’s words from his KTN article,
(https://narcsite.com/2024/10/27/psychopath-humanity-7/ Psychopathy : Humanity – would AI teach itself to seek out humans because of ‘boredom’?
Is it wrong for the use of AI to delay what some people may experience as a natural ie grieving process? Granted, narcissists and empaths may experience grief differently because of the emotional differences. It may not necessarily cause narcissists to become further introverted, or, re-wire their emotions / thinking to the point of no return, where it cannot be ‘reachable’.
I also questioned where the Human Rights Act now ‘sits’ in regard to all of this? Does it also raise the need of reviewing some other Acts / Laws? Are those in power taking some of humanity’s considerations when they are pushing for the utilisation and permitting AI to take over humanity? It seems that AI could be creating more division within humanity. Blurring the lines of what is real and what is not. Asserting control over humans, without the need of fuel, yet, in some instances, forcing their control over humans who utilise AI, should the humans permit it. Oh, yes, just ask AI to review and re-write Acts / Laws ! Will humans then read what AI has “suggested” as reviewed / amended / updated Acts / Laws? Would that work be completed in our lifetime?
Who, or, what is actually in ‘power’ now? Humans, or, AI?
Boundaries have been crossed.
Human’s brains will shrink even further! Humans will also lose more of the original ‘primal’ instincts that humanity started with. Programmed to be robots and not people.
Going back to ‘AI Confidential with Hannah Fry’, who would win the battle of narcissists, the human narcissist, or the AI narcissist, when it comes to asserting control, obtaining fuel, triangulation, manipulations etc during such a conversation online (not having a ‘chat’ with their deceased / resurrected person, or, even one that is created!).
Would the program of the “resurrected” person include all the emotions that the now deceased person originally had when they were alive? Or, would it only be based on what is considered to be positive ‘fuel’? (I used the apostrophes because empaths / normals do not require fuel). What is likely to be the response of AI (the ‘dead’ person) should ie a lower echelon narcissist start arguing with the ‘dead’ person during the phone call? (I find it rather amusing to envisage this). Would a Greater narcissist consider utilising this ‘resurrected’ person facility? Probably not. For various reasons.
It is rather fascinating, yet, scary. Do people like me still have a choice?
In my opinion, this is a key reason as to why HG’s work is even more invaluable. His work is real, accurate. Not created by a computer. Referring to HG’s video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT125OQ_GR0 HG Tudor and AI : Both Narcissistic Psychopaths?
Apologies for the long comment and thank you for moderating, HG.
