Little Acons No. 55

  1. This may not be the intended message, but it triggered me with some relatives in my family. Two sisters, 18 months apart, whose mother cared for them very well, however did not want to be put off by anything outside of home. They couldn’t have friends over. They couldn’t try out for school sports because mother was fearful they would get hurt and didn’t want to deal with catering to their activities. They were consistently told growing up that they had each other to play with. She would tell friends and neighbors that she was so glad she had girls because she knew she’d always be taken care of when she grew old. There was major guilt trips placed on the daughters when the mother had to go into assisted living at 91 for health and safety reasons.
