Hello HG:
Question : Is love an addiction?
2. Do you define all love as an addiction?
I say this to you as I realize every man or maybe person I have loved….. I still do in some form or fashion. Most of my exes are my friends. As I have said before friendship doesn’t mean we talk regularly. Some, my ex empath, we talk once a year. Others it could be 10 years. My son’s dad, I see fairly regularly and I am friends with him, his girlfriend who bubbles with empathy- I adore her – and his family. I think I let go or lost one close friend in a lifetime. Only one. My ex pure psychopath, I have love for him. We aren’t friends but I look at the co-parenting and respect to each other for a long period of time as a positive outcome. He is a good dad. Now my ex narcissist. I still love and care for him. I won’t be with him. I don’t communicate but I would have ended as friends. He would not.
To me, the addiction is when you accept abuse. Especially over a period of time. It’s like drugs. Maybe one try at heroin isn’t an addiction but if you keep taking it and it destroys you and others. Yes it is an addiction. With addicts it often starts with loss of control and how the drug has hurt your life. Many addicts HATE the drug and its destruction but can’t stop.
What I find conflicting is it’s the love that often keeps you into the narc relationship. To try to fix things, make the relationship LOVING…. that’s a hindrance among other things. That’s the problem with those with masks. You fall in love with a falsehood. You learn later and it’s hard to switch off the love light quick.
But love to me is a healthy addiction, if an addiction. To me, it is the reason God created us, it’s our fundamental purpose and it is the Truth and the Light and it heals, saves, makes the world a better place.
I have often wished I could turn the love light off like a switch. I left the empath who I was madly in love with and was with 5-7 years because he didn’t want children. I loved him then and I love him now. It was tormenting pain to leave but I wanted children. It was not a quick switch to turn off.
My narc ex I left as I could not put up with his behavior. I loved him then. I love him now. It was his behavior that led hated.
Both I left. Both I love. One I talk to, the other I don’t.
And I hope to love again. Right now, no romance. I am selective.
But love is an interesting emotion and if you can’t experience it, I could see it looking like an addiction. People do crazy things for love. I would easily throw myself in front of a bullet in aimed at my children. I would die to save them. It is not an addiction in my book. It is the most selfless beautiful God mandated emotion on Earth.
So I am curious, since you don’t experience love, how do you separate love from addiction?
Excellent package. Highly recommend.
Thank you NA.
