Your video, HG, called ‘Jason Arday : Prodigy to Pariah – How We Choose Our Villains’ is very insightful.
It answered my questions regarding how and why Arday’s obvious lies were believed and even defended.

I thought your video showing chickens was very amusing and most appropriate in this instance. From my perspective, he was ultimately “chicken” and took the “cowards” way out!

Now our govt have instigated vaccines for 5,000 of our fairy feathered penguins on Philip Island and St Kilda, not one shot, but two and they’re getting microchipped.

Yes, I’ve heard about the plan to vaccinate the colonies of fairy penguins in Victoria. It’s a big project that will take months to achieve.
The Penguin Parade on Phillip Island is a famous tourist attraction. The nightly march of penguins as they waddle in from the sea to the shore at sunset has been operating as a popular sight that has attracted visitors since 1921.
As you know, Bubbles, it has become a whole successful industry with its own infrastructure. There are now viewing sites as well as conservation efforts to preserve the area. Visitors can view the penguins from ‘exclusive’ vantage points from above and underground. It’s also a huge attraction for small children and schools.
When I heard about the vaccination program, I thought it was based on conservation and protection as well as commercial interests.
It would be so sad to lose our little fairy penguins though, so I’m glad there’s a concerted effort to protect them.
The HSN1 bird flu is no laughing matter. It is highly contagious to animals and has slowly spread all over the world. It has slowly but surely mutated over the past two decades and has affected both birds and other mammals. It is capable of wiping out whole species which are rare or endangered.
It threatens poultry farms where it can spread very rapidly, causing farmers to cull all their chickens if they detect one sick bird.
At present, the bird flu is not highly contagious to humans. Although, humans can still get it if they have close contact with infected or dead birds or other mammals, or the contaminated environments of these infected animals.

I don’t actually see the vaccination program for the fairy penguins in the same way you do. I think it’s a good idea. The microchipping is being done to identify which penguins have been vaccinated and which haven’t. I don’t see it as insidious.

And … by doing this, he has also made himself the ultimate ‘victim’.
This is going to become an even bigger convoluted mess of deception.
His family are now blaming the “campaign of sustained abuse” waged against him. In a statement the family has issued through his publisher, they say it was “too much” for the “gentle” Jason to bear. They are asking for “the press to leave us alone now.”
Any questions asked by media going forward are going to be described by the family as ‘harassment’.
Before things escalated to this peak of ‘ultimate control’, there was a steady crescendo of burgeoning BS spread by the ‘professor’. Why weren’t his fantastical lies investigated sooner?
There would have been many people, both his academic peers and others, who could have easily debunked his lies.
My guess is that there will now be a number of academics, and also entire educational institutions, scrambling to get their CYA files in order. (A CYA file is a “cover your ass” file.)

It takes more strength and courage to own up and be accountable for your own actions but most rarely do. His statement “what I am is not a liar” is such a narcy thing to say, right ?
90,000 people have signed an independent inquiry petition into his so called “harassment” whilst using the “black” race card again, are you serious? Interesting how narcs always orchestrate their own victimhood….. even in death.

I agree, it was a selfish act. He had young children.
I’d never heard of him before HG’s first video about him. From what I’ve learned of him since, the whole situation sounds very unusual. His lies were so obvious. How could people just believe them at face value?
It seems like those who did believe his far-fetched lies were under some form of delusion that made them want to believe him.
When I heard the news of his death, it came as a surprise. I didn’t expect that he would go to that length. Then I felt sad. Despite his lies and the scandal surrounding him, he was a human being and he was only 41. It’s just a senseless loss of life.
When I think about him leaving behind two young children, it’s even more sad. Family life, and the bonds between close family members – these things don’t seem to have much value or hold much weight these days, which seems sad and also surreal to me.
I think that in addition to his narcissism, there was something else. He appeared to have a very loose grasp on reality. It may have been like a form of psychosis or dissociation or derealisation. To end it all suddenly even though he had children and was apparently very intelligent… makes me think he made rash and delusional decisions.

I had not heard of him either WN, apparently he was big in England. His death WAS senseless, however, look at the support after his death. More than $300,000 has been raised in a Go Fund Me for his family thru an official memorial and funeral cost fundraiser organised by Sir Patrick Vernon (activist) haha
Apart from his “childhood autism” , my “intuition” tells me he developed extra “tisms”, (seems everyone has these days) Haha
Arday was on a 6 figure salary and was paid £1.4 mil in advance from his publisher on his memoirs.
“None, not one” of the universities vetted his work, how extraordinary !
They all took him on oral and professional trust over verification.
Not one member of the hiring committee had read any of his works before appointing him. Now that’s hilarious !
They all said he was “incredibly charismatic” ……aren’t most narcs ? Haha
Cambridge were so eager to appoint the university’s youngest black professor they rushed to secure his appointment as a PR win.

Thanks for the extra information about Jason Arday. It’s very interesting.
His fabricated life story certainly paid off for him – until it didn’t. Well, even after his death, it was still paying off, considering the Go Fund Me for his family.
It reminds me of the saying: “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
It’s unbelievable that he wasn’t properly vetted by any of the universities and his works weren’t read by the hiring committee before they hired him. Considering the status of Cambridge, that is surprising at face value.
On greater reflection though, it reminds me of some of the things going on in ‘academia’ in Australia at present.
As you probably already know, Bubbles, universities and colleges here have become more like businesses over the last few decades. Course fees have risen greatly, to the point where many young people can’t afford them and are also questioning the value of them. Meanwhile, the numbers of foreign students have steadily increased.
Foreign student numbers in the top urban universities now equal local student numbers. Generally across the country, numbers of international students average from 24% to 27%. Universities want to attract them because foreign students regard Australia favorably and are willing to pay the high fees.
Also, there are Vice-Chancellors and other academic executives hired based on their fame or notoriety rather than their actual experience or academic leadership ability. Then, these highly-paid ‘in-house’ executives spend exorbitant amounts on hiring outside ‘management consultants’ to tell them how to run the university.
This leads to the university wasting ‘revenues’ on bad decisions and doing things like cancelling ‘low-revenue’ departments or courses like say, arts and music, while spending millions on things like renovations and their own remuneration, for example.
It’s as though universities and colleges are becoming corporations.
I don’t know where all this is leading to, Bubbles.
I recognise some people don’t believe Arday deserves any empathy (regardless of whether they have the capacity for it or not) but I’m curious, WN, given you have experienced scapegoating, if you think there’s a possibility Arday has been scapegoated.
You suggest you first heard of him and the story in HG’s video but since that time you may have since come across further reports, from different sources, which may portray him, the story, and the various players from different angles. Your view about him, his background and the accusations could shift as more information comes to light or you’re simply exposed to different information.
I’m not asking you to have any particular view. But you know that scapegoating is a phenomenon that can occur in any community or social ecosystem.

Interesting question.
In a nutshell, I think the effects of scapegoating can lead to different consequences depending on the personality (or temperament) of the person being scapegoated and also the environment.
When I consider my own situation, I think family scapegoating led to two major consequences in my thinking.
One is that I have a strong aversion to manipulative lies and deception. This is especially the case when I see lies or deception leading to injustice or deliberate harm. It bothers me. It causes me to feel a need to dispel the lie and uncover the truth, even if doing so will lead to difficult consequences for myself. It’s kind of like a whistleblower situation.
I have thought about this in the course of being on the blog, actually. I have come to realise that this aversion to lies or injustice brings out a strong ‘judge’ kind of attitude, which in turn makes my thinking very critical. I need to tone down my ‘inner judge’ in order to balance things out a bit more.
The second general consequence of being a family scapegoat that I have noticed in myself is that I often resonate with an ‘underdog’ character or someone who is invalidated. It makes me feel like I need to stand up and vouch for them in some way, like a protector.
These aspects are just two general ways that I feel personally. I think that different people would have different reactions to being scapegoated.
When I think about Jason Arday and whether he may have been a scapegoat, a few things come to mind.
At first I think that his lies were extreme and very bold. It seems he didn’t fear or worry that he would be found out or punished. He wasn’t insecure about falsifying his credentials, plagiarising, or making outlandish claims.
This aspect makes me think he was probably a golden child rather than a scapegoat. It sounds like he had strong self-entitlement rather than a need to prove himself or have integrity.
Another thing that comes to mind that I find interesting regarding Arday’s behaviour is the statement his family made after his death.
The family statement very much perpetuated the deceptive nature of Arday’s lies. His family have kept the charade going full steam ahead.
If his family were down-to-earth and honest, they would have been more likely to say something like, “We are heartbroken that our dear Jason is no longer with us. We ask that our privacy is respected at this very sad time … “, etc.
Instead, the family went in to fight mode, a bit like when Erika Kirk gave her speech soon after Charlie Kirk’s death and talked about “this widow’s battlecry” etc.
The family’s reaction makes me think that they may have egged Jason on in order for him to be a lauded famous professor who makes millions and has a publishing deal.
Rather than being a ‘scapegoat’ in the strict sense of the word, it may have been that Jason was not simply personally ambitious for his own sake. He may have felt like he needed to live up to the expectations of others.
When his credentials weren’t checked and his outlandish lies were believed by Cambridge and he was installed as the youngest black professor, the trajectory had begun. From there, he kept the spin going until the lies were so inflated the comedown was huge.
If he had people around him who really cared about him and cared about the truth, they wouldn’t have encouraged and enabled his lies. It sounds like they cared more about the benefits derived from the lies than the possible consequences if the lies were found out.
Overall, I don’t think it’s a case of scapegoating in the strict sense of the word. I think it’s more like a case of other people building him up for their own ego-driven selfish purposes, which would be more like him being a golden child.
