These icicles are very irritating. They drop unexpectedly usually when it is “warm” and “cozy” on the relationship. Creating contrast.
It reminds me of one of your books : ” From the Mouth of a Narcissist” where one can read many of these comments that I could relate to.
Just quoting some extracts of this book:
” Many of them convey what I think about you or even sometimes give you a rare glimpse of truth into what I think about myself. Others are blistering and unpleasant put downs which I use as cudgels to beat down any resistance to getting what I want from you. Yet others are the conniving and insidious tools I use to ply my unpleasant ways.” From the Mouth of a Narcissist by HG Tudor.
….” I think the way they are presented more accurately portrays the manner in which we behave, switching suddenly from praise to
insult, jumping from compliment to demand and alternating between charmer and abuser.” From the Mouth of a Narcissist by HG Tudor.
Reading this book was remembering how it felt when these comments were dropped: like being slapped in the face…powerful reminder indeed!!!

What does this mean? What the narcissist goes through internally?
If only.
Possibly.
