    Respect must be earned through hard work like always being there for the child and always trying to understand and see things from his perspective, by hearing him even when it is not pleasant for a parent (when he tells you “su*k it”, you have to understand there is frustrations underneath all that and you need the wisdom to discuss with him=respect him and try to cooperate, that way you teach him how a real relationship works). Respect comes with an open and honest relationship. It’s worthy if one wants to raise an emotionally stable (grown up) man, not doing/putting up with BS. Not an abuser, nor a victim.

    Unfortunately, some parents chose the easy way out =imposing respect by inspiring fear and close their children’s mouths, but that costed them they children’s hate and emotional dysfunction for the rest of their lives. A grown up is far more difficult (if not impossible!) to educate than a child.
